- The calculator uses species, weight, and sometimes activity or diet (dry vs wet food) to estimate daily fluid needs in ounces or milliliters. Wet food provides part of that total.
- My pet drinks way more than the estimate. Is that bad?
- Increased thirst can signal diabetes, kidney disease, or other problems. Compare to your pet's normal baseline and call your vet if drinking or urinating suddenly increases.
- Do I need to count water from food?
- Canned or fresh diets contribute moisture, so bowl drinking may look lower than the total hydration target. Note diet type if the form asks for it.
- When should I see a vet about hydration?
- Seek care for lethargy, dry gums, vomiting, or refusal to drink, especially in hot weather. This tool does not diagnose dehydration or illness.
